“Training should always be done in an enjoyable manner.” — Aikido Founder, Ueshiba Morihei
Classes are taught by Simon Harris, 5th dan or one of his senior students.
Students have the flexibility to choose which classes to attend with no minimum commitment required however, we do recommend 2~3 classes a week to maximise your learning experience.
Evening classes are focused primarily on open-handed techniques are held between 7.00pm and 8.30pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday. These run for approximately one hour with a compulsory half-hour free practice session at the end. This ensures students remain focused on the instruction and correction during class and leaves time for each individual’s own research and training at the end.
For those interested in developing a deeper understanding of sword and staff techniques, we also offer morning classes. These classes run from 6.30am to 7.45am, Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings beginning with 15 minutes of meditation (or chinkon) and followed by an hour class conducted in the nearby Flagstaff Gardens (or inside if it is raining). If, for whatever reason, you are unable to arrive in time for meditation, we ask that you wait quietly outside or in the waiting area until the regular class begins.
Located at Lucy Guerin Dance Studio, 14 Batman Street, West Melbourne (Melways Reference: 2E K2) on the fringe of the CBD, we are walking distance from the Melbourne GPO, close to Flagstaff Station, Spencer Street trams and trains, and La Trobe Street trams.
